Another sports story covered a day of Motocross races at Knobby Hill Motocross track in Sheridan, IN near Indianapolis. This story was published in a natinal motocross magazine.
Even with Knobby’s addition of the triple jump and the step up pipe jump, Baker provided his fellow riders with a clinic in the worst way. Pounding his way to a victory in both the 125A and 250A classes, Baker sailed to the finish line with little to no trouble. As Yamaha mounted Jeff Baker kicked tail and took names, Donald Baker trailed behind with a truly impressive vigor of his own. “I just kept my speed up,” J. Baker said. “I saw [Don Baker] getting close and just tried to keep a steady pace.” It was a steady pace all right, right through the finish line and out the tunnel for an all around impressive day. Nonetheless, Honda sporting D. Baker boasted his own first place in the 30+A class while sliding into second place in the 250A and 25+A classes. Also touting convincing rides were veterans Kevin Lampe, Shawn Wilson and Ben Graves. Lampe closed out the day winning 25+A and finishing fourth in the 250A class. Wilson racked up second place in the 30+A class and third place in the 25+A class while Graves boasted a second place finish in the 125A class and third in 250A. Back in the B classes, Kurt Hough found his Honda in the winner’s circle for 25+B and 30+B. Proving to be the most closely matched race of the day, Hough had to fend off Brett Terchila and Ken Fineis for most of both 30+B motos. Terchila tallied a second place in the 25+B class and an impressive third in 30+B while Fineis reciprocated the notion and raced to third place in 25+B and second in 30+B. Meanwhile, in the 80’s classes Michael Bender was having a day of his own. Bender drove his Kawasaki to victory in the 80sr and 80open classes to finish his day with a perfect score. Jacob Elliott and Brad Bowen kept their Yamahas close behind to finish second and third respectively. Hosting its first Honda Contingency of the year (and the only District 15 track to do so), Knobby Hill got off to a roaring start with 322 registered riders. The Honda Red Rider Contingency is posted at over 400 events nationwide and awards $4.4Mil. Knobby Hill will award $28,500 over a series of four races to Honda riders who finish in the top four in each class. The next Honda contingency at Knobby Hill is set for Sunday July 22.
